And Lo, They Came Bearing Feather Dusters............

......................and a manic gleam in their eyes that told me they would not be taking "Aw Naw!" for an answer. It's clear out time at iLL Man Towers and I'm taking cover. Lesson 1. Living with yr folks is neither big, nor clever.......

Anyway, here are some things I may or may not need some advice on.....

1 - Soup. I'm in the mood again for a bit of liquid sorcery. I whipped together a sort of Spring veg thingy at the weekend, but I'm looking for something new and unique. I know for a fact a few of you out there have some little soupy secrets to divulge. Go on, make my week.....

2 - I'm off to Gretna at the weekend. I wish I could tell you all I was eloping, but alas, hell has a better chance of getting a little light frost than I have of forming a meaningful relationship with a member of the opposite sex. Football I'm afraid. I'm off to see Thistle get pumped by.......I mean play Gretna. It's been a bit of a week for the club all told. It looks like we're staring into the financial abyss again. At least last time we had a refurbished main stand, state of the art floodlights, undersoil heating and a fucking huge stand to show for the debt we were in. This time all we have is a pile of rubble at one end of the ground and a botched property deal. Oh, and a team that would have a hard time against the local amateurs.......My club needs me. More to the point, I need my club.....

3 - The more curious and observant among you will have noticed that the iLL Man blog empire is expanding. Feel free to drop in and say hello. On the subject of comments, I have noticed that it takes a certain kind of post to generate feedback from people. Now, I'm not going to look back through my posts and find out what the formula is. It would be 'posting-by-rote' and since this blog is an exercise in self indulgence, I feel it would become something of a chore to come up with things that I feel people would respond to. I realised long ago that I'm far too random to get much of a gang in tow.

4 - Following on from the above point. Can I have shout outs from all my lurkers. If you've never commented, then do so now and forever haud yer piece....

5- I'm off to bed, I'm fucked.......

Hello,
I'm moe often than not, do read you, and yes, more often than not, I do not comment. I feel making lazy and/or lame comments are far worse than making none. I suspect a 'I've read that' note would be even far worse.
Q#1. See my entry on pre-Easter times. Between bashing hypocrites and asking stupid questions I posted a recipe for a spinach creme soup.
Q#2 I left unanswered for reasons stated above.
Q#3. I did notice. I do read. So be aware. (just kidding here) I totally felt that thing, being torn apart by writing for a potential audience AND/OR for self-development. Go ahead as you like I say. Don't care about us.
Q#4. See, I'm not lurking. Not this time....
Q#5 I leave unanswered for funny reasons.

Take care.

I'm a lazy commenter. It's usually because every morning when I get into work I have something like 400 unread posts on my RSS reader courtesy of BBC News and the vomit-inducing Comment is Free, and my mission tends to be to dispense with them before the boss catches me. Your blogs (yes, all three) get read every time you update though.

Soup? Buy a packet from Asda, and add some pasta if you want to do something a wee bit different. Works for me...

Like lism, I read you via Bloglines ever time you post. Mostly I have too many blogs to read to comment on all, but of course you have a very very special place in my heart. Heh.

Do you like tomato or minestrone? My wife makes lovely ones from scratch. Pain in the hole to chop all that veg though.

Ach, ignore me.... I'm just being all insecure about something trivial, but I am quite interested to know who comes through here. For what it's worth, I know all of you read me. I'm just being an old tart.

Also, cheers for the soup ideas. I'll maybe put one or two of them into action.

Do I count as a lurker? I lurk, occasionally make people snort beer out of their nose and generally make a tit of myself - is that enough to qualify for the free gift? Fuck - I've got a bruise on the inside of my finger - how'd that happen? Hugs on ya xJ

Hello,
This is now my favourite soup, you can make it with lentils or any pulse at all really, though I favour the chickpea. I've been told it's very good made with chicken stock but I haven't tried it.

Jools - Free gift? Oh, let me get back to you on that one.....Hate those bruises that just appear from nowhere, can never resist pressing the tender bit......(Whoooa there boy!!!)

Clairwil - Cheers! The Tuscan lentil shall be my first port of call....

ZinZin - That's no excuse. You've had your chance m'lad. Too slow. More comments! MORE COMMENTS NOW!!

Sorry, kidding on.... good to have you here mate. ;)
I owe you a link, I'll get on it asap....

Re: Comments in general. I think what I was trying to articulate was the fact that whilst I know I have regular readers, my posts don't always lend themselves to comment posting. Szelso fa has a good point, don't comment just for the sake of it.....

I think I go through a phase like this about twice a year, so be warned y'all......

soup: chicken stock made with real chicken remains (only the nice bits). depending on quality of the stock you can add half a knorr chicken stock cube to it. finely chop an onion, peel and grate a large carrot and a parsnip, chuck in and boil for a while. add a knob of butter (secret ingredient, revealed here for the first time) and season with salt & pepper. add chopped parsley and any left-over chicken meat chopped up small. that's it, although you can blend it if you want, and add a little cream at the same time. don't forget the croutons.

Alan, I'm on two minds about croutons. Fine for tomato and minestrone, maybe thin veg soups, but I won't let them near liquidised or cream soups...

All suggestions will be attempted at some point. Thanks, and keep them coming.....

Oh bum, not allowed to comment just for the sake of it...that's me spannered then! :)

Och, since it's you, comment away.....

You've always got something to say that I want to hear.... ;)

Spicy sausage and lentil soup is always a winner for me.

this is pretty good even without the truffle oil: http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/jerusalemartichokeso_74406.shtml

And if you're not a veggie, a little bit of bacon or cured ham will bring the best out of your tomato soup

You still after soup? I just made a fantastic chicken and rice soup from Claudia Roden's Jewish cookery book. It's a Sephardi soup which the Jews of Baghdad ate for breakfast, apparently. The Sephardi Jews don't really share the chicken soup fetish of the Ashkenazis, but this is very rich and filling and exactly the sort of thing I'd want if I was feeling a bit under the weather. Let me know if you're interested and I'll email you the recipe.

Katy, Spicy Sausage and lentil sounds awesome....I shall email you about the chicken and rice soup in due course ;)

el cid - Cheers for those. Busy weekend what with being away at the football and speedway so I'll get a shufty at that tonight.

All suggestions will be attempted and I'll report back on the results....Cheers everyone.
